How the GPA Calculator Works
Each course's grade is converted to grade points on a standard 4.0 scale, multiplied by its credit hours, then summed and divided by your total credits — that's your unweighted GPA. The weighted GPA adds a bonus (+0.5 for Honors, +1.0 for AP/IB) to each course's grade points before averaging, reflecting the extra difficulty of advanced classes.
Add a row for every course you're including, set its grade, level, and credit hours, and the calculator handles the weighting automatically.
Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between weighted and unweighted GPA?
Unweighted GPA treats every course equally on a 4.0 scale. Weighted GPA gives extra credit for Honors and AP/IB courses, which is why it can exceed 4.0.
What grading scale does this use?
The standard US 4.0 scale with plus/minus grades (A+ and A both count as 4.0, A- as 3.7, and so on down to F).
Can I add or remove courses?
Yes — use "Add Course" for as many classes as you need, and remove any row you don't need with its Remove button.
