How the Tip Calculator Works

Should I tip on the total including tax?
Most people tip on the pre-tax subtotal, but tipping on the full total (including tax) is also common and simpler. This calculator applies the tip percentage to whatever bill amount you enter.
How is the per-person amount split?
The total bill plus tip is divided evenly by the number of people. It does not account for people ordering different amounts - for that, split individual items first, then use this calculator per share.
